The Secretary of State for Transport, Julio Lopes, assured yesterday that the first phase of works to expand the subway to Barra da Tijuca is with the advanced licences and will start in March 2010.
“Because the first phase will not have bids, and licenses as the EIA-RIMA (environmental impact study) is underway, we will begin drilling the rocks in the ages that connect Barra da Tijuca to Sao Conrado and São Conrado to Gavea in March 2010 or even before that”, said Lopes.
However, the Secretary could not specify how much will be spent in the first stage or where the money will come.
