Among the novelties from the Growing Acceleration Program 2 (GAP), is the bullet-train between Curitiba and Sao Paulo. But, to get on rails, the project will depend on estimates funds of US$ 6 billion – more than twice the sum of all federal funds provided for Parana by 2014: US$ 5 billion.
What GAP 2 predicts, for now, is the allocation of resources for the studies and design of the second High Speed Train (TAV), connecting Curitiba to Sao Paulo, as stated in the National Plan of Roads, from the Ministry of Transports.
The original plan predicts a high speed line between Campinas, Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. In June, the government must release the bidding for the project, with a one and a half year delay – the initial prediction was December 2008.
The Parana extension should be based on the study conducted by the Engineering Institute of Parana (IEP), which estimates the costs for the implantation of the rail line.
The project sees trains leaving stations hour-to-hour, from 6 am to 10 pm (local time), every day, between the two cities. The bullet-train speed would reach 300 kilometers per hour and the 360 kilometers per hour journey would be made in one hour and forty minutes.
